In our next meet­ing, Cindy will show us her amaz­ing Stereo Nightscapes and Pas­cal will tell us about his research on simul­ta­ne­ous stereo pho­tog­ra­phy with smartphones.

We will also have a Show & Tell sec­tion in which every­one is invit­ed to share a trea­sured 3D item or pho­to they’re excit­ed about with the community.

Stereo Nightscapes

At some point, it occurred to me that there might be a way to com­bine my pho­tog­ra­phy of the night sky with stere­oscopy. Until then, these had been sep­a­rate and com­pet­ing interests. 

There are pre­cious few things that com­pare to spend­ing the night with my cam­eras beneath an inky black sky. With stars so bright and numer­ous, I yearn to scoop them up and fill my pock­ets, just to share with you.

The best of two worlds: Simultaneous Smartphone Stereos

Crowd­ed places, ani­mals, wind or water — move­ment in gen­er­al is a No-Go if you’re tak­ing stereo pho­tos with your smart­phone. But mov­ing to a full twin-cam­era-set­up would cause oth­er dis­ad­van­tages. Most of all, if you end up hav­ing left your heavy rig at home.

These are only some rea­sons why I start­ed work­ing on a solu­tion for sync­ing two smart­phones. After almost a year, I have a ful­ly func­tion­al set­up with two iPhones. I’m excit­ed to tell you about it and to show you some pho­tos you would­n’t believe are pos­si­ble with smartphones.
