First, we will have Klara Wang pre­sent­ing about 2D to 3D con­ver­sions. She will show us some exam­ples of this pop­u­lar trend and demon­strate her stan­dard workflow.

Then we will look once again at your amaz­ing stereo pho­tos that you have sub­mit­ted for our fourth stereo challenge.

Converting 2D to 3D using LeiaPix + StereoPhoto Maker

A few months into my stereo jour­ney, I start­ed to dis­cov­er that there exist stere­os which were not tak­en on the spot, but rather con­vert­ed from orig­i­nal­ly mono pics. The fact that it was pos­si­ble to trans­form any stan­dard pic into 3D instant­ly fas­ci­nat­ed me, and I was more than keen to try it out myself. Through the help of sev­er­al stereo pals on Insta­gram and lots of exper­i­men­ta­tion, I was final­ly able to default on a method that I felt the most com­fort­able with, which is what I’ll be demon­strat­ing in my presentation. 

Ever since I dis­cov­ered this new way of cre­at­ing stere­os, I have been hooked ever since. There are too many pics in exis­tence that would be amaz­ing to view in 3D, but were obvi­ous­ly not tak­en as stere­os at the time. Hence, I think the tech­nol­o­gy that we have today which allows us to do this con­ver­sion process is tru­ly mon­u­men­tal to stere­oscopy and pho­tog­ra­phy enthu­si­asts alike.

For our last chal­lenge of 2022 we’ve cho­sen the top­ic LEAF. You can sub­mit up to two stereo images (par­al­lel view) by send­ing them to contact@vsc3d.com. Sub­mis­sion Dead­line is Decem­ber 9!

If you have only par­tic­i­pat­ed in one of our Stereo Chal­lenges so far, you should def­i­nite­ly sub­mit one or two Leaf Stereo Pho­tos. That’s because every­one who took part in at least two chal­lenges will be part of our Christ­mas Raffle.

A small Lorgnette-style hand­held view­er. It lets you view stereo cards and stereo images on your smartphone.
