About this objectThe Alter­nascope is a mul­ti-view stere­o­scope. It’s a vari­ant of the Edu­ca stere­o­scope, designed for edu­ca­tion­al use and man­u­fac­tured by Mat­tey. The instru­ment was pro­duced exclu­sive­ly by Mat­tey on behalf of the Edu­ca company.

The illus­trat­ed view­er com­pris­es only the view­ing unit. It was pro­duced exclu­sive­ly for the Inter­na­tion­al Exhi­bi­tion in Barcelona in 1929. It func­tions sim­i­lar­ly to the Alter­nascope, except that there is no ver­ti­cal move­ment, and the slides con­sist only of rows from the orig­i­nal 13 × 18 cm plates. In this way, each slide con­tains two stereo­scop­ic pairs.
