Underwood & Underwood: Beyond the third dimension

Under­wood & Underwood’s place in the his­to­ry of the stere­oscopy is well known. In my pre­sen­ta­tion I will offer that the his­to­ry of Under­wood & Under­wood, from its own per­spec­tive as a pho­tog­ra­phy-based com­pa­ny, and not from that of the his­to­ry of stere­oscopy, shows it was a much more var­ied and pio­neer­ing com­pa­ny than many may real­ize. It was well-posi­tioned to thrive where new oppor­tu­ni­ties arose for it to lever­age its pho­to­graph­ic and cor­po­rate strengths.  The images in my pre­sen­ta­tion are entire­ly from my col­lec­tion except where noted.
